From June to September 2010 Wysing Arts Centre is exploring The Improbable during an INTERNATIONAL CAMP FOR IMPROBABLE THINKING with artists Asli Çavuşoğlu, Andy Holden, Fabiano Marques, Julie Myers, Emily Rosamond, Studio Weave andBedwyr Williams, who are re-locating to Wysing for its duration. To launch the Camp we invite you to join us in a series of Weekend Camps, organised by Wysing’s Curator-in-Residence Christina Green.

All Events (except for the Music Festival) are FREE

WEEKEND CAMP 1 - 5 & 6 June, 2-5pm

Join us for a series of games and activities across Wysing’s site and over both days inspired by our guest contributor Professor David Spiegelhalter of the mathematics department of the University of Cambridge. Prof. Spiegelhalter’s research into improbability and uncertainty has involved the creation of improbable games, some of which we will play over the weekend. Suitable for all ages.

WEEKEND CAMP 2 - 12 & 13 June, 2-5pm

On Saturday join us on a walking tour to Wysing’s closest village, Bourn, led by artist Emma Smith. Departing from Wysing we will visit forgotten places and re-enact past stories and myths from the village. On Sunday, local initiative Acoustic Café will host an unusual musical afternoon with bands: August III, John Meed + Miguel Moreno, Brian Jeffels and Sky Station. Suitable for all ages.

WEEKEND CAMP 3 - 19 & 20 JUNE, 2-5pm

On Saturday, following a reading of The Night Climbers; a novel by Ivo Stourton, Prof. David Spiegelhalter and philosopher Angelo Di Cintio, of Anglia Ruskin University, are joined by a panel of speakers to discuss different interpretations of the improbable. On Sunday ProfessorNicky Clayton of Cambridge University’s department of experimental psychology will show her film Bird Tango, followed by a tango workshop led by Prof. Clayton and based on Darwinian evolutionary ideas. Aimed at adults.

WEEKEND CAMP 4 - 26 & 27 June, 2-5pm

On Saturday, we bring together all the ideas that have gathered throughout June and test them out in a number of fun collective activities. On Sunday, we will end our Weekend Camps with a wild food hunt followed by an experimental cooking session led by Jacky Sutton-Adam. Suitable for all ages.

THROUGHOUT JUNE - EVERY SATURDAY, 5.30-8pm

Curator, art critic and scholar Lars Bang Larsen is curating a pop-up psychedelic zone of film screenings and text readings to give a further layering of improbable ideas. Aimed at adults.

OPEN WEEKEND - 24 & 25 July, 2-5pm

We throw open the doors of Wysing and invite you to come and see what improbable artworks are emerging – all the Camp artists will be occupying studios at Wysing for the summer, plus of course there are many artists working from studios at Wysing on an ongoing basis. Suitable for all ages.

MUSIC FESTIVAL - 11 September, 2pm to late

Artist Andy Holden is curating a festival of artists’ music as a close to the Camp. The festival, entitled For The Song Has No End so far includes artists Martin Creed and Bob and Roberta Smith on board. More to follow.www.wysingartscentre.org
