WYSING ARTS CENTRE is located outside the village of Bourn, nine miles west of Cambridge. Wysing is open every day, 12-5pm, when there is an exhibition in the gallery. Otherwise the centre is open at specific times for ongoing and regular events like artists’ talks, in-conversations, music events, performances and family activities. During the periods when the centre is closed to the public, Wysing operates studios for artists and creative businesses, international artists' residencies, artistic retreats, school and research visits, and the Wysing Young Artists programme. The office hours are Monday-Friday, 10am-5pm.
There are a number of outdoor sculptural installations across Wysing's site including by artists Andy Holden (Bedfordshire), Folke Kobberling and Martin Kaltwasser (Berlin), Bik Van Der Pol (Rotterdam), Giles Round (London) and Bedwyr Williams (Caernarfon). Visitors are welcome at any time during office hours to view the works. Please note that Andy Holden's Boulder Stage is currently undergoing renovations (Jan- March 2012).
Wysing is a working site, with up to thirty artists working from studios in the ten buildings that are located across the 11 acres. Studios are open during annual Open Days or by appointment and are occupied by artists living in the area and by those taking part in international artists’ residencies.
Wysing does not have a cafe but does provide tea and coffee to visitors. Picnickers are very welcome and picnic tables are located around the site. Bourn village has three excellent eateries: Cafe Abantu for light snacks, The Willow Tree Gastropub and the Lalbagh Bangladeshi and Indian Restaurant.

THE STARRY RUBRIC SET
5 February – 18 March 2012 Monday-Sunday 12-5pm
The group exhibition The Starry Rubric Set (the title taken from a quote from Milton’s poem Paradise Regained) considers classical astrology as a device to bring together new works made by artists who were in residence at Wysing Arts Centre during 2011 and to introduce the three themes of Wysing’s 2012 programme: The Cosmos, The Mirror and The Forest.
The exhibition includes site-specific works, moving-image, sound work, sculpture and prints that loosely explore systems and structures of space and time. Within the gallery, a large scale glow-in-the-dark sculpture by Nicolas Deshayes functions as a projection screen for Karin Kihlberg & Reuben Henry’s 'This Story is About a Little Boy'; a ten minute reconstruction of 'The Fallen Idol' by British film director Carol Reed. Reed’s film is recalled from memory as a monologue that in turn provides a structure to the re-edited visuals of the film. Traces of the images linger on Deshayes’ phosphorescent screen, between stills slowly fading. Interspersed between these screenings, a new sound work by Laure Prouvost fills the gallery space, her voice speaking softly but focused directly on the listener.
Giles Round’s new mural made from plaited coloured electrical cable and ceramic ‘hubs’ branches across the gallery walls; each wire leading to spotlights which serve to illuminate other works in the exhibition by Ruth Beale, Rob Filby and Kate Owens. Marjolijn Dijkman’s feature length film 'Wandering in the Future', shown on a monitor, consists of an edited series of images from other films’ projections of the future.
An Endless Supply launch their publication of responses to the proposition "From your position, predict two points in motion that will come into alignment" which the duo posed to nearly 100 contributors to our 2011 programme. Hilary Koob-Sassen’s new sculptures are on display in Wysing’s grounds. More detailed information HERE.
Saturday 10 March.
A day of performances and live works including the reinterpretation of John Latham’s performance The Government of the First and Thirteenth Chair by Mark Aerial Waller. Francesco Pedraglio, Emma Smith and Cally Spooner will also present new live works, interspersed with a screening programme for a phosphorescent screen curated in collaboration with LUX. Full details HERE.
Wysing wishes to thank Plastikote for their kind support of The Starry Rubric Set.
