Clare Crouchman

In 1993-5 Clare lived in Japan and studied ceramics with a Japanese potter. She returned to the UK and in 1996 achieved MA Ceramics at the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff and now produces abstract work in a two-dimensional format.

She has always been interested in the intricate shapes and asymmetrical forms found in the landscape, both occurring naturally and as a result of human intervention. Clare is particularly attracted to rhythmical and repetitive patterns that repeat themselves naturally on both a large and small scale. Recently, a trip to New York has drawn her attention to the configurations of the urban landscape created by modern cities. Within her work Clare aims to harness a balance between order and disorder and therefore create a dynamic between the carefully selected elements. With the tactile quality of the ceramic material and the purposefully composed rhythms and textures, she endeavours to stimulate the viewer visually, sensually and intellectually.

Clare has exhibited both nationally and internationally and have work included in numerous private collections, she also has work in the Hertfordshire Educational Fine Art Collection.
