Jo Mardell is an independent curator working with artists from a broad range of disciplines to develop site specific, durational and live events. In 2009 she initiated and directed Nightjar, a programme of temporary artworks and encounters presented in Cambridge between the hours of dusk and dawn. Taking place during October, the month that the clocks turn back from British Summer Time to Greenwich Mean Time, Nightjar created an opportunity to celebrate the city’s long hours of darkness. Each of the artworks were located outside of the traditional gallery or theatre space inhabiting the more unexpected sites of the city, including an outdoor swimming pool, bowling green and hotel library. Nightjar is planned to return to Cambridge in October 2011.

Previous projects include managing and producing ‘Anywhere-Somewhere-Everywhere’ an alternative tour led by chorographer Willi Dorner which revealed the hidden and concealed spaces of Nottingham, curating ‘No two days the same’ an evening of live work sited within a former music hall and ‘A Sense of Place’ which combined photography, objects and re-appropriated images to explore our environment and habitats.

Jo also works as Programme Co-ordinator for Radar, Loughborough University Arts Programme, managing a series of residencies, commissions and discussions.
