From June to September 2010 Wysing Arts Centre is exploring The Improbable during an International Camp for Improbable Thinking with artists Asli Çavuşoğlu, Andy Holden, Fabiano Marques, Julie Myers, Emily Rosamond, Studio Weave and Bedwyr Williams, who are re-locating to Wysing for its duration. To launch the Camp we invite you to join us, alongside the Camp artists, in a series of Weekend Camps, organised by Wysing’s Curator-in-Residence Christina Green.

WEEKEND CAMP ONE, 5 & 6 JUNE, 2-5pm Join us for a series of games and activities across Wysing’s site and over both days inspired by our guest contributor Professor David Spiegelhalter of the mathematics department of the University of Cambridge. Prof. Spiegelhalter’s research into improbability and uncertainty has involved the creation of improbable games, some of which we will play over the weekend. Suitable for all ages.

WEEKEND CAMP TWO, 12 & 13 JUNE, 2-5pm On Saturday join us on a walking tour to Wysing’s closest village, Bourn, led by artist Emma Smith. Departing from Wysing we will visit forgotten places and re-enact past stories and myths from the village. On Sunday, local initiative Acoustic Café will host an unusual musical afternoon with bands: August III, John Meed + Miguel Moreno, Brian Jeffels and Sky Station. Suitable for all ages.

WEEKEND CAMP THREE, 19 & 20 JUNE, 2-5pm On Saturday, following a reading of The Night Climbers; a novel by Ivo Stourton. Philosopher and Artist Angelo Di Cintio, of Anglia Ruskin University, will be joined by a panel of speakers to discuss different interpretations of the improbable. On Sunday Professor Nicky Clayton of Cambridge University’s department of experimental psychology will show her film Bird Tango, followed by a tango workshop led by Prof. Clayton and based on Darwinian evolutionary ideas. Aimed at adults.

WEEKEND CAMP FOUR, 26 & 27 June, 2-5pm On Saturday, we bring together all the ideas that have gathered throughout June and test them out in a number of fun collective activities. On Sunday, we will end our Weekend Camps with a wild food hunt followed by an experimental cooking session. Suitable for all ages.

EVERY SATURDAY THROUGHOUT JUNE, 5.30-8pm Curator, art critic and scholar Lars Bang Larsen is curating a pop-up psychedelic zone of film screenings and text readings to give a further layering of improbable ideas. Aimed at adults.
