Wysing Arts Centre is one of seven fantastic new artistic venues that will open to the public in the East of England over the next 18 months.
We at Arts Council East are particularly proud of the investment we have committed to this strong, visionary organisation which we think has the potential to attract and develop new artistic talent in the East of England. We are confident that Wysing Arts Centre will fast establish itself as a national and international centre of excellence for the development of visual artists, and play a large part in building a world-class cultural offer in our region.
We look forward to joining you all for a glass of champagne this Friday to celebrate the launch of the new centre!

We’ve got space on the Flickr photo-sharing website, so if you want to see photos of the site, the artists, the team and the re-opening you can find us there… and here too, of course.

Since I have been a full-time sculptor, I have found more scope for integrating my cultural roots with the other artistic influences which have been important to me. In particular, some of my recent Letter-sculptures and Lettering-art show the direct influence of Persian Calligraphy. With these works I try to present traditional Persian calligraphy as a modern art form, and make it as popular in the 21st century as it was in previous ages.
Most of my time these days is taken up with Public Art projects: applying for, proposals, designing, running/supervising fabricators, making and community liaison etc.
I enjoy the demands and creative restrictions / opportunities (maintenance / vandal proof issues) that this type of work brings and am constantly looking to push things creatively in new areas, from say lighting ideas to interactive work, to new materials.
Current projects include:
Numerous items for a new housing development in Fulbourn to the west of Cambridge, spread over the next couple of years. Seating, Lighting Sculpture, Human Sundial etc.
Just starting a new project working with a local architect
Council buildings in Gt Yarmouth starting later on this year
