Artist talks and events over the summer

Saturday 25 July, 5-6pm
SHARING AND COLLECTING CONTEMPORARY ART

Would you like to become part of a group who collect and share contemporary art together for their homes? If so, come along to our informal talk by Tim and Ben Eastop, founder members of The Collective, who will talk about how they started the group, how it works, and how you can join.

The Collective is an unusual and fun way to collect and share contemporary art, where groups of individuals join together to purchase and share contemporary art together in their homes. Through the joint collecting and sharing the ownership of art, money is saved and the activity of collecting becomes more of an engaging social experience. The scheme is already a success in London and Bristol, with established groups owning interesting and increasingly valuable art collections.

If you are interested in finding out more, joining the first Wysing Collective, or perhaps even setting up your own, do join us for a glass of wine and an interesting discussion on how this new way of collecting will not only broaden the mind but be a lot of fun.

ARTIST TALK
Helen Stratford is currently in residence, as part of the Communities Under Construction programme. Her work produced for the residency makes visible the practices that produce and maintain the open spaces in the nearby settlement of Cambourne. Gathered by Helen, these practices include those of local residents, young people, groundsmen, road sweepers, light scouts, planners and people working on their allotments.

Helen will talk about how her work builds on the many conversations she has had during the residency by exploring ways to activate spaces, through spatial and audio interventions, and through a bookwork that provides a playful critique of the measured environment that is distinctive to Cambourne. 'Mechanical Operations in Cambourne,' produced in collaboration with artist Lawrence Bradby, will be launched at the talk. Published by marmalade, it is distributed by central books and available to be ordered from all good bookshops. filmarmalade.co.uk.
