Syllabus VII Artists visited Eastside Projects, Birmingham, for their second gathering.

The cohort walked across, through and under the city on the canals, visiting spaces like Grand Union, Prayer Room, MAIA and Ikon Gallery.

The walk was activated by different prompts and activities - walking in silence, reading out loud together, and exploring some of the questions posed by the dirty nails (les ongles noirs) activators’ including;

What are the creative ways with which we generate collective abundance? What is your connection to the soil? What forms of tending do our imaginations require to water the worlds we are attempting to grow? How do the pressures of capitalism play into your perception of yourself? What knowledge has been passed down to you by your ancestors or predecessors can it still be transmitted, received? How do we make space for all these worlds in motion, tending ever to their churning? Can you hear the movement of the soil, can you bear it? What monsters have made homes in us in our search for safety?
