Penny Klein draws, performs, acts, writes and makes music. Her work is often collaborative, which helps to tease and pull out the things she cannot see. Her work is concerned with expressiveness, often improvised, intimate and immediate. She is interested in notions of authenticity, control, perfectionism and imperfection, perception, depiction and deception, connection, pain and joy.
Penny is the co-founder and coordinator of The Surround, a platform that supports those working with performance and music to try out new, experimental or unfinished work in front of an audience. She is currently pursuing research with the help of Arquetopia Foundation, looking at observational drawing, the colonial scribe and the tourist's pose. She plays violin.
